Denoising, also called noise reduction, is a generic term for a process that removes noise from a signal (see Wikipedia article). In next-generation sequencing, denoising generally refers to a computational method for removing sequence errors from amplicon reads or, equivalently, identifying the correct biological sequences in the reads.
